So after street fighter I figured it was time for something a little more complicated... the Black and White experiment proved that Black and White may as well have been engineered for Kinect ten years ago - but what about RTS games which have a slightly more clunky and complicated interface?
The obvious solution to the vast array of manipulations that the TW series offer is voice control. For this video it's being done with a headset but once the mic gets implemented in the PrimeSense driver set you should be able to use Kinect alone. The voice recognition comes straight from Windows 7 and is converted into commands by using the VAC System.
GlovePIE is also being used here to connect up the chuck for thumb navigation and clicks as well as running a simple little script that allows the zoom in and out feature without actually having to lean back (eg you can just sit normally to revert to normal zoom).
The absolute mouse positioning needs some tweaking, it's still very jaggy and has had some extreme parameters thrown to it which prevent it's use in windows once you hit that emulation button - but it's pretty functional for this implementation. This issue becomes more apparent when the CPU gets whacked - but generally that's only an issue when using FRAPS to record the gameplay.
As ever please give the following guys your support and if you want to try this out go and actually buy the games in question. Sure it's quicker and easier to torrent but remember that game dev's need the royalties and publisher deals to carry on making great titles. If you don't pay for the game then you silently consent to making people redundant and adversely affect the risk / payoff decisions made by publishers when funding games for release on the PC. Now you don't want that do you?
